5 Differences & Similarities between Internet Jobs & 9 to 5 Office Jobs

As an internet marketer you need to know what are the differences and similarities between an Internet job and a 9 to 5 office job. Even if you are a guy who is working in a company then also you need to know about these similarities and differences.
Before becoming an Internet marketer I used to work for a company. After working for at least 3 years, I left that company and started my new online job as an internet marketer. Therefore, I am the right person to tell you the exact differences and similarities between these two.

So I jotted down this blog post for you.

Top 5 Differences

Differences are very easy to make out. After working as an internet marketer for 3 years, I came to conclusion that there are some serious differences between these two jobs.

1. Work From Home

The first one is that, in 9 to 5 job, you need to commute and go to the workplace. However, as an internet marketer you can do your job right from your bedroom.
This is the one major difference. When I was working for the company, I had to commute daily for at least 1 hour, however now I could start my work sitting in my bedroom.
Therefore, this is the one major difference and you could probably say that internet jobs are way better than a 9 to 5 job. Yes, you can say however internet jobs are not that easy as it seems to be.

2. Who’s the Boss

Second major difference between these two jobs is the boss. In Internet jobs, you are your own boss because you are self employed. However, in the case of 9 to 5 job who need to take orders from your boss or senior.
In a regular job you have to go at workplace and work in a strict environment however in Internet jobs you start your own business so you don’t have to take orders.
You could say internet jobs are way better than your regular 9 to 5 jobs because you are the boss. So this could be a great advantage.

3. Which Job is Easy or Difficult

Well, this is very tricky question because it depends upon every different individual. For me my Internet job could be more interesting and I like doing it. But for many others Internet jobs could be boring and they love to work 9 to 5.
So it depends on person to person. However, generally a 9 to 5 job is considered to be difficult because you have to commute first and then work under your irritating boss.
On the other hand, internet jobs are cool, no commuting, start working in your pajamas and you are your own boss.
I want to say it depends upon the person how he takes it.

4. The Money Factor

This is the most important difference between an internet job and a 9 to 5 job. Internet jobs give you anopportunity to make money that could buy you a big home, a car and complete financial freedom.
On the other hand money that you get working for a 9 to 5 job is very limited and there is hardly any opportunity to make it big.
This was the main reason why I left my 9 to 5 job and started working online. People working on Internet generally make more money than a guy working for regular 9 to 5 job.

5. Work Culture

The fifth big difference between these two jobs is the work culture. I might say working culture of a 9 to 5 job is better than an internet job.
In a 9 to 5 job there is a discipline because you are going to work under someone’s supervision. Hence, you are more likely to finish you work in time.
But on the other hand, in an internet job you are the boss and there is no pressure of finishing your job in a given time. This makes you lazy and developing a non serious attitude towards your work.
Moreover, in an internet job you invite lot of disturbances because you are working from home. So work culture is absolutely different in both jobs.

Top 5 Similarities

Now let us look at some of the similarities between both jobs. After reading 5 differences you may be surprised to know that there are few similarities between these two jobs as well.
Let us look at them one by one.

1. Both are Private Sector Jobs

Both of these jobs are private sector jobs. Although your 9 to 5 job could be a government job but they are mainly private industry jobs. Therefore this factor is very much similar between these two types of job.
In coming years, 9 to 5 jobs would be only in private sector. It is because government jobs will not be available as government is privatizing every institution.
As far as internet jobs are concerned they can never be a government job. They are always private jobs or you could be self employed.
Moreover, even if you are self employed you have to depend on the company from which you are getting paid.

2. Long Hours of Work

Both jobs are very tiresome and you have to work for long hours if you want to achieve something. Only difference is that in internet jobs you could be rewarded with more money but in a 9 to 5 job your salary is very much fixed.
However, the working hour is same for both jobs. You have to work 8 hours daily and moreover in a day job you have to commute back and forth which is very hard.
Be prepared to work hard whether it is a day job or your internet job. Do not get a feeling that Internet jobs are easy and you can do in your pajamas, in fact it is more difficult than a day job.

3. Uncertainty of the Job

Both jobs are uncertain. Your 9 to 5 job which is mainly a private job, you could be laid off any time, whenever companies want to do it. You could be fired because your company wants to save money and they want cut down in their workforce.
Similarly, an internet job is also uncertain because you do not work under a company. You are self employed hence it cannot be a permanent job. You have to make your mind and be prepared to change your job anytime.
Uncertainty of a job is common for both 9 to 5 and internet jobs alike.

4. The Deadline

Here the deadline means that you have to finish a piece of work in a given time. Meeting deadline is very important in both jobs.
In fact, this could cause increase work load. People who think that internet jobs are very easy and you could do it sitting idly well that is not the case.
You have to finish a piece of work in a given time otherwise your client would not pay you and your credibility is in danger.
In 9 to 5 job, you know better you are always under the supervision of your boss and you have an obligation to finish the work in a given time.
So meeting your deadline for a work is common between both kinds of job.

5. Pay Check Depends Upon Working Hours

The final similarity is you get paid on the basis of your working hours. If you have not worked or you took leave then you do not get paid if it is a 9 to 5 job.
Similarly, if you don’t work for an internet job then you do not make any money.
Hence, you are paid on the basis of number of hours you have worked in both jobs.
Finally, I would say these were 5 similarities and differences between an internet job and a 9 to 5 job. It is up to you which one you want to choose.
